Sin dall'annuncio delle sue dimissioni dal vertice del Dipartimento delle informazioni per la sicurezza (DIS), concretizzatosi fattualmente il 15 gennaio, era trapelata la possibilità che il prossimo incarico di Elisabetta Belloni potesse gravitare verso Bruxelles, specificatamente nell'orbita di Palazzo Berlaymont, affiancando dunque Ursula von der Leyen. Dinanzi a queste speculazioni, la Belloni preferì optare per più miti posizioni, non esponendosi riguardo il proprio avvenire lavorativo. L'ufficialità della sua futura carica, recentemente designata dal Collegio dei Commissari su proposta della von der Leyen stessa, conferma le antecedenti indiscrezioni: rivestirà infatti il ruolo di "Chief diplomatic adviser", ovvero consigliera diplomatica della suddetta Presidente, per l'arco di due anni (posizione rinnovabile di ulteriori 220 giorni).
Le comprovate abilità affinate nei diversi incarichi ricoperti e le doti maturate nei lunghi anni di carriera, verranno questa volta messe in atto presso il servizio di consulenza IDEA: "Inspire, Debate, Engage and Accelerate Action", che retto da Sonia Vila Nuñez, lavora con il Segretariato generale sotto le istanze direttive della Presidente della Commissione. Le peculiarità di questo ufficio risiedono nel sostenere l'attività della Commissione, plasmando le tematiche da questa enucleate con idee, soluzioni e strategie all'insegna dell'innovazione e dello sviluppo, nel panorama in costante evoluzione. IDEA, anello di giunzione con istituti di ricerca e think tanks, incentiva il dibattito e l'analisi sinergica di questioni impellenti, di modo da formulare proposte, tenendo conto delle molteplici sfumature delle realtà prese in esame. Interdisciplinarietà e cooperazione permettono così di ottimizzare le tempistiche, oltre che l'efficacia attuativa e risolutiva, per mezzo di risposte scaturite da un'ottica molteplice e diversificata, che fa della pluralità visionaria la sua forza. I principali ambiti su cui attualmente si radica l'indagine sono i più disparati: tecnologia e digitalizzazione, Green Deal, mercato economico, geopolitica, il ruolo dell'Europa nell'ordine mondiale e le sue future prospettive concernenti la competitività e le istituzioni.

Since the announcement of her resignation from the top of the Department of Security Information (DIS), which actually materialized on January 15, the possibility had leaked that Elisabetta Belloni's next assignment could gravitate towards Brussels, specifically in the orbit of the Berlaymont Palace, thus working alongside Ursula von der Leyen. Faced with these speculations, Belloni preferred to opt for more lenient positions, not exposing herself regarding her future work. The official nature of her future role, recently designated by the College of Commissioners on the proposal of von der Leyen herself, confirms previous rumors: she will in fact hold the role of "Chief diplomatic adviser", or diplomatic advisor to the aforementioned President, for a period of two years (a position renewable for a further 220 days).
The proven skills honed in the various roles held and the qualities acquired over the long years of career, will this time be put into action at the IDEA consultancy service: "Inspire, Debate, Engage and Accelerate Action", which, headed by Sonia Vila Nuñez, works with the General Secretariat under the directive instances of the President of the Commission. The peculiarities of this office lie in supporting the activity of the Commission, shaping the themes it identifies with ideas, solutions and strategies in the name of innovation and development, in the constantly evolving panorama. IDEA, a link with research institutes and think tanks, encourages debate and synergic analysis of pressing issues, in order to formulate proposals, taking into account the multiple nuances of the realities examined. Interdisciplinarity and cooperation thus allow to optimize timing, as well as the effectiveness of implementation and resolution, through responses arising from a multiple and diversified perspective, which makes visionary plurality its strength. The main areas on which the investigation is currently rooted are the most diverse: technology and digitalization, Green Deal, economic market, geopolitics, the role of Europe in the world order and its future prospects concerning competitiveness and institutions.
As the internal and external challenges that loom over the EU multiply, conflicts that are being resolved and others that remain in stalemate, the foundations on which IDEA is based and the contribution that Elisabetta Belloni can make seem, now more than ever, of enormous importance.
