Guterres invita alla moderazione e alla de-escalation, dopo il recente raid di Israele a Beirut, che il 31 luglio scorso ha provocato la morte del secondo in comando di Hesbollah, Faud Shukr.
Il Segretario delle Nazioni Unite nelle sue dichiarazioni mette in luce come, in Medio Oriente, si stia verificando una pericolosa escalation che mina gli obiettivi finora posti, come il rilascio di tutti gli ostaggi israeliani a Gaza, di un cessate il fuoco sulla striscia e di un ritorno alla calma in Libano. L'invito è quello di lavorare "energicamente per la de-escalation regionale, nell'interesse della pace e della stabilità a lungo termine per tutti" per evitare una guerra che coinvolgerebbe l'intero Medio Oriente e tutti i civili.
Le diplomazie internazionali con a capo gli Stati Uniti, intanto, stanno lavorando per ottenere moderazione in entrambi i versanti, con risultati per ora incerti: alla coordinatrice speciale delle Nazioni Unite, Jeanine Hannis-Plasschaert, Libano e Israele l'hanno definita di "flagrante aggressione".

Guterres calls for moderation and de-escalation, following Israel's recent raid on Beirut, which resulted in the death of Hesbollah's second-in-command, Faud Shukr, on July 31st.
In his statements, the United Nations Secretary highlights that, in the Middle East, a dangerous escalation is taking place which undermines the objectives set so far, such as the release of all Israeli hostages in Gaza, a ceasefire on the strip and a return to calm in Lebanon. The invitation is to work "energetically for regional de-escalation, in the interests of long-term peace and stability for all" to avoid a war that would involve the entire Middle East and all civilians.
International diplomacies led by the United States, meanwhile, are working to obtain moderation on both sides, with uncertain results for now: to the special coordinator of the United Nations, Jeanine Hannis-Plasschaert, Lebanon and Israel have defined it as "flagrant aggression".
