Il presidente ucraino Volodymyr Zelensky ha dichiarato martedì scorso che presenterà un piano di pace al presidente Biden e ai candidati alla Casa Bianca Kamala Harris e Donald Trump.

Zelensky, parlando durante una conferenza stampa a Kiev, ha illustrato il piano in quattro fasi, affermando che l'incursione del paese nella regione russa di Kursk è il primo pilastro. "Il secondo pilastro è il ruolo strategico dell'Ucraina negli equilibri mondiali", ha proseguito il presidente ucraino, "il terzo è un potente pacchetto di misure per costringere la Russia a porre fine alla guerra e il quarto è l'economia".

Zelensky ha poi aggiunto che intende partecipare all'Assemblea Generale delle Nazioni Unite a New York a settembre e durante la visita ha in programma di incontrare il presidente Biden per presentare il piano. Vista l'incertezza su chi vincerà le elezioni presidenziali del 2024, il piano sarà condiviso sia con Trump, candidato del GOP, che con l'attuale vicepresidente Harris, candidata democratica.

Nel frattempo la situazione sul campo resta molto incerta: l'incursione a sorpresa dell'Ucraina ha costretto la Russia a spostare alcune truppe, circa 30.000 uomini secondo fonti ucraine, dall'Ucraina orientale verso la regione di Kursk. L'esercito ucraino ha inoltre rivendicato la conquista di quasi 500 miglia di territorio russo.

Nonostante l'avanzata ucraina, il presidente russo Vladimir Putin ha dichiarato che le forze armate di Mosca continueranno l'offensiva nella regione di Donetsk per rafforzare la posizione nel Donbass orientale. Donbass che, come dichiarato da Putin durante il Forum di Vladivostock, resta l'obiettivo principale della Russia, che da tempo ha rinunciato a pretese maggiori in Ucraina. 

Zelensky's peace plan for Biden, Trump and Harris

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Tuesday that he will present a peace plan to President Biden and White House candidates Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.

Zelensky, speaking at a news conference in Kiev, outlined the four-phase plan, saying the country's incursion into Russia's Kursk region is the first pillar. "The second pillar is Ukraine's strategic role in the world balance", continued the Ukrainian president, "the third is a powerful package of measures to force Russia to end the war and the fourth is the economy". 

Zelensky then added that he intends to attend the United Nations General Assembly in New York in September and during the visit he plans to meet with President Biden to present the plan. Given the uncertainty over who will win the 2024 presidential elections, the plan will be shared with both Trump, the GOP candidate, and current Vice President Harris, the Democratic candidate. 

Meanwhile, the situation on the ground remains very uncertain: Ukraine's surprise incursion forced Russia to move some troops, around 30,000 men according to Ukrainian sources, from eastern Ukraine to the Kursk region. The Ukrainian military has also claimed nearly 500 miles of Russian territory. 

Despite the Ukrainian advance, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Moscow's armed forces will continue the offensive in the Donetsk region to strengthen the position in eastern Donbass. Donbass which, as declared by Putin during the Vladivostock Forum, remains the main objective of Russia, which has long since renounced greater claims in Ukraine.
